+ sunny fall weekends in maine are about the nicest thing i can think of. it's definite sweater weather (my favorite) most days, but still warm and gorgeous. we're going apple picking today. 'the place with the warm donuts, please, mom.' we contemplated the common ground fair, which i love, but weren't feeling up for sitting in the huge line of traffic two miles from the fair for a good chunk of the morning. in a year or two i will feel comfortable with us all biking in, but i think they're still too little to navigate all of that car traffic.
+ yesterday i dropped the last pieces for my nahcotta show off at the framer. it's hard to believe it's only two weeks away! more info on that soon.
+ i am having a new love affair with bon iver. listening makes me so happy. my friend jennifer and i often email each other about music, and i sent her a dorky, gushy 'bon iver! i totally love it!' email the other day, and she wrote right back and said 'i am listening right now! i know!' thus confirming that we are both goofballs and reminding me why i like her so much. it has a melancholy, quiet feel that is really appealing to me; i may feel differently about this when it is winter and there is no natural light past 3:44pm and i'm hating pretty much everything, but for now it's working well for me. (even though i think bon iver means good winter. huh.)
+ i made spanakopita (spanakotiropita?) this week. i used to work in the kitchen at a fancy restaurant in bar harbor and one of my daily jobs was to make a sweat-on-your-brow, ultra-complicated, insane lobster strudel. (bonus points for you if you comment and tell me the name of the restaurant, fellow mainers.) i got fairly handy with the whole operation, but it kind of soured me on cooking with phyllo for the past, well, 11 years or so. but i had a moment of weakness this week - i really like reading whipped, and seeing her recipe for it made me decide to give it a go. it was super tasty; i recommend it.
+ we got out the gocco to make a rollerskating birthday invitation that i drew. i had some technical issues - i didn't smooth out the plastic flap when i was flashing it, and it created some wrinkly spaces on the master, but they don't bother me too much. any time with the gocco is fun time. i think my girl would probably have preferred store bought invites, but she was too polite to tell me. :)
i hope you have a warm, sunny weekend. it's cardigan season!
