i have a real thing for special rocks. they catch my eye on walks and hikes and i can't stop thinking about them. i bring them home and keep them around the house, in bowls and on windowsills, on my desk and in my pockets. the bigger ones are sometimes used as doorstops. a few years ago i went to brimfield with a few good friends where we did lots and lots of walking, and found myself complaining after a bit that my purse was feeling heavy. my friend betsy said, 'what do you have in there, a bunch of rocks?' i checked, and i did. d'oh. four or five of them. (it's another story that i wouldn't have cleaned out my purse before an epic day of walking around an enormous flea market.) i left some special rocks at brimfield that day. i hope whoever found them liked them as much i had.
striped lucky rocks and heart shaped rocks are my personal favorites. if they have double stripes, all the better.
i made a rather extensive list of a bunch of intentions for 2012 - big and small, some silly, some private. but one of them was to stop bringing rocks home. it's a hard habit to break, because i really like to draw rocks. a lot. especially the smoother, pebbly rocks. and i love the way they look on my windowsills and my dresser. but i think i have enough. probably. and we live near a national park, so i am trying to teach the kids to leave everything except garbage right where we find it. so in 2012 i'm taking pictures of the many rocks i have crushes on instead of bringing them home. you might see a few of them here once in awhile.
