red magazine

Oh, it is something of an exciting day for me today. I did a full page illustration/collage over the summer for a magazine called "Red" that Target Corporation puts out to college campuses across the country, and I got my copies in the mail today! I'm on page 18+21! It's a slick little thing, part ads and part articles, with terrific design and illustrations.  I love the cover art by Andrew Bannecker. (That's his, on the left, and mine in the middle, next to the article my art goes with.)

There's also a great little mention of Etsy in there, too. See? I heard that Martha Stewart loves Etsy*, too. It's going to be a handmade revolution.   (*Ok, I admit it. I've started watching Martha sometimes while I'm drawing during the day. I like to think of it as research...it's addictive.)

kara from broken press studio emailed me awhile ago to ask if i'd like to do a swap with her. i was game, and flattered that she wanted some of my stuff. yesterday a beautiful package arrived for me, and it felt like i'd hit the  motherlode-birthday-jackpot-something-something when i opened it up. this stranger in san diego has her finger on the pulse of everything i love! it was a happy day.
there was an assortment of lovely art papers that you will soon be seeing in my artwork, a bundle of old library cards, vintage maps from switzerland and austria, wood grain notepaper, a tiny book she made about how to make books, this excellent pin and then the best part of all:  the most incredible handmade book that she told me was inspired by my artwork. it's amazing! she says it's for me to doodle in, but i think it might be too special for that. the layering of the collage on top has wonderful detailing.
i feel very lucky. yup.
